Amanda Patterson
The Creative Writing Division is run by Amanda Patterson, founder and CEO of Writers Write.
Amanda has been nominated for the AMBI Remarkable Woman 2008, for SA Woman of the Year 2006 and for various Mondi awards. Amanda helped one of Oprah’s Dream Winners achieve her dream. Wilma wanted to write a book. Writers Write taught her how. This dream come true was also featured on SABC3 throughout May 2008.
Amanda’s signature course, Writers Write , specializes in the teaching of fiction writing. 61 Writers Write students have been published in fiction and in non-fiction. Testimonials from authors and graduates.
Amanda was a judge in the Mills & Boon Voice of Africa Romance Competition ~ winners featured in Essentials in May 2009. After more than half of the finalists were shown to be Writers Write graduates, she withdrew from the judging panel.
Amanda’s Charity: The Write Foundation
The Write Foundation is a trust dedicated to empowering South Africans through learning to write and to read. The foundation is also starting a project to empower women with financial literacy and basic business strategy skills.

Amanda Patterson and Anton Behr will launch their own dedicated South African romance imprint in 2010. The Heart of Africa competition has been launched to produce great romance writers for the new publishing house.
History
Amanda opened The Writers Circle in 2002. What started out as a small business has flourished into a writer’s network that reaches every sector of the South African Community. Amanda has written 2 romances, 1 and a half crime novels, 1 memoir and 11 books on how to write fiction. Her latest book - a writer’s diary - Rewrite your Future was launched at the Cape Town Book Fair in June 2007. The first print run sold out by the end of July 2007.

She has completed her memoir, The eyes that don’t cry, publishing 2010. She continues to engineer innovative writing courses. These include Writers Write, Writers Write 2, Writers Write for Young Adults, Romancing the Dollar, KISS, Creating Characters, This is My Life, Editing Edge and Skrywers Skryf.
Amanda works closely with South Africa publishers to promote young black women writers. Her flagship course, Writers Write, has seen the first black graduate, Angela Makholwa, write Red Ink (Macmillan) which was released in June 2007. Angela’s second novel was published in June 2009.
Other
Registered with the Huber School of Psychological Astrology in London, she pens a monthly Astrological Column for Writers. She is a regular columnist for Books & Leisure and was commissioned to write her life story for Femina, and her experiences of the men she has loved for O (Oprah) magazine. She has been profiled in Fair Lady, Destiny and Entrepreneur. She writes a monthly On Writing column. She is a contributor for Off the Cuff and has written over 500 book reviews for newspapers and magazines.
